Ameriabank announces its initiatives under a new slogan "100 years is just the beginning"
ArmInfo. Today Ameriabank announced its initiatives under a new slogan – "100 years is just the beginning".
"We hope that within the coming 100 years we will maintain the traditions formed over the past period", said Development Director of Ameriabank Tigran Jrbashyan at a press-conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the bank.
Jrbashyan said that the bank has prepared 100 new surprises for their partners – corporate clients and fellow citizens, but preferred not to specify the details. He only said that within the next week Jrbashyan will offer innovative credit products tom its clients.
Summing up the results of the bank's activity for Jan-Sep 2010, Jrbashyan pointed out that Ameriabank occupies the second position in the banking system of Armenia practically by all indices, and by some indices it is an absolute leader. Thus, as of 30 September 2010, the bank's assets exceeded 152 bln AMD, having grown by 147,7% since the beginning of the year (2nd position in the banking system).
Over Jan-Sep 2010 the bank's liabilities amounted to 121.3 bln AMD, or 10,7% of total liabilities of the banking system. By its authorized capital the bank has been holding the leading position with 25.5 bln AMD for the third year running. The total capital of the bank has grown by 143,5% to 31.2 bln AMD. By its provision of crediting, the bank is in the lead with 88.4 bln AMD (163,4% growth since the beginning of the year). The bank is going to increase the portfolio to 90 bln AMD by the end of the year.
At the very beginning of the press conference, Jrbashyan told journalists the history of creation of the bank, which dates back to the 1920s. In 1910 a branch of the Tbilisi Central Trade Bank was opened in Yerevan. Afterwards the Tbilisi Bank and its branch in Yerevan was renamed into the Caucasus Bank. In 1917 the Yerevan branch of the Caucasus Bank had 440 depositors and became the largest creditor in Armenia. Afterwards the bank was nationalized and became a branch of the State Bank, on whose basis the Armenian branch of Stroybank (Construction Bank) was set up in 1959. In 1974 the branch of the Soviet "Vneshtorgbank" was created. In 1988 the bank was renamed into Vnesheconombank, and in 1992 Armimpexbank CJSC was created on the basis of Vnesheconombank by the decision of the Central Bank of Armenia. The shares of Armimpexbank were bought by TDA Holdings Limited company, after which the bank was renamed into Ameriabank.
