Motor third party liability insurance becomes an obstacle to free contact with Armenia
ArmInfo. The motor third party liability insurance, introduced in Armenia Jan 2011, has become an obstacle to the free contact of the Armenians living in Georgia's Samtskhe-Javakheti region with their historical homeland, says a statement sent to Ambassador of Armenia to Russia Oleg Yesayan.
The statement says: "In order to cross the Armenian border one should obtain a permission for the temporary entry of his vehicle into the territory of Armenia. But because of incompetent and disrespectul customs officers and the lack of necessary premises people are forced in wait for hours on the border."
"For many years already the Armenians of Samtskhe-Javakheti have experienced social-economic hardships (unemployment, unfavorable climate, social insecurity, emigration and expulsion) and this behavior makes things even worse for them. The officials creating obstacles to those people forget that frequent crossing of the Georgian-Armenian border is a dire necessity for many of them."
"Hence, the Javakheti community of Russia is asking Mr.Yesayan to inform President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan about this situation so that he helps to eliminate the obstacles on the border. We are sure that Mr.Sargsyan, who has repeatedly expressed support for the Javakheti Armenians, will not neglect our request and will force those on the border to improve the situation," says the statement.
