HSBC Bank Armenia expands its coverage in banking cards market
ArmInfo. "We issued 14,600 plastic cards in 2010, 3,600 credit cards and 11,000 ATM cards", HSBC Bank Armenia CEO Astrid Clifford said in an interview with ArmInfo.
She said that at the end of the year the bank had 52,800 plastic cards in total, 15,600 credit cards and 37,200 ATM cards. The growth rate compared to 2009 was 23% for credit cards and 31% for AMT cards.
"We currently have around 300 POS terminals (15% growth during 2010). We increased the number of ATMs by one, but we actually expanded our coverage further as we also relocated 4 in-branch ATMs to different areas of the city", said Clifford.
She pointed out that the bank plans to install cash-in ATMs this year. "Unfortunately, the project is taking a bit longer than we initially planned but it is definitely progressing", she said.
As of 1 October 2010 HSBC Bank Armenia occupied the 6th position in thr Armenian banking system by the total number of its active plastic cards - almost 51 thsd, of them over 45 thsd being MasterCard, and the rest - local ArCa cards. The total number of the bank's cards annually grew by 2.3% (3.8% growth in MasterCard card, and 7,7% decline in ArCa cards).
To note, the shareholders of the bank are HSBC Europe B.V. (70%) and Wings Establishment (30%).
