Armenian premier congratulates bankers of Armenia on their professional holiday
ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan congratulated the employees of the Armenian banking system on the Banker's Day and on the 18th anniversary of Dram, the national currency of Armenia. The governmental press service quoted the premier as saying: "Like any guy, the Dram has passed through many difficulties on its path; and the national currency has been established alongside with the formation of the banking system".
Sargsyan said that the banking system in Armenia has become one of the accomplished spheres of the national economy and is one of the fewest ones among the CIS countries and even all over the world, which did not require the authorities' interference to resist the challenges of the global financial crisis.
The premier pointed out the achievements of the national banking system and stressed the growing public confidence in the banks. He recalled that in Sept 2011 vs Sept 2010 the deposits in the Armenian banks grew by 76%. The other indices of the banking system have similar dynamics, particularly, the lending grew, the loan rates dropped, etc. At the same time, much still has to be done, he said.
As of 1 Oct 2011, a total of 9,736 employees worked in the banking system of Armenia. Their number annually grew by 10.4%. Most of them worked in the top five leading banks, which have the widest branch network in Armenia: VTB Bank (Armenia), Ardshininvestbank, ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank, Armeconombank and Unibank.
