Artashat hosts an exhibition of Armenia's money circulation history

An exhibition on Armenia's money circulation history, organized on the initiative of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA), has opened in the town of Artashat, one of the capitals of ancient Armenia. Armenak Darbinyan, member of the CBA's Council, said during the opening ceremony that the exhibition unveils the history of the national currency and money circulation of Armenia and enhances the population's financial awareness. The exhibition will last till May 23.
"Financial services are steadily growing in our country now, and the CBA is going to enhance the financial awareness of the population in marzes (regions) and to familiarize the residents with the megaregulator's activity via such exhibitions", said Darbinyan.
The exhibition features the copper coins with the images of Tigran the Great (95-65 B.C.), a king from the Artaxiad Dynasty; silver and copper coins of Cilician Armenia; coins and banknotes of various periods of the contemporary history of Armenia. The banknotes of the Armenian SSR, Georgian SSR, and Azerbaijani SSR, released in 1923-24, are also exhibited.
Among the exhibits are banknotes circulated in Armenia in 1898-1915, when it was part of the Russian Empire, the banknotes of the Democratic Republic of Armenia (1918-1920), Soviet banknotes, Armenian drams of 1993-1995 and 1998-2003 and lots of jubilee coins.
The CB's coin expert Gevorg Mughalyan said that in late June 2013 the CB will issue a silver coin to mark the 20th year of Armenian dram.
The CB has so far organized similar exhibitions in Gyumri, Vanadzor, Stepanakert, Ijevan, Eghagnadozr, Gavar.
