Visa International and Armenian banks studying introduction of contactless payments via NFC
ArmInfo. Visa International payment system and Armenians banks are studying introduction of contactless payments via NFC (Near Field Communication), VISA's General Manager for the CIS and South-Eastern Europe Katarzyna Sosin said in a joint press conference with VTB Bank (Armenia) in Yerevan, Tuesday, in response to ArmInfo's question regarding the ending era of online payments via bankcards in developed countries.
The world is developing very rapidly, she said, and new payment tools emerge. However, Visa is forging ahead. "We constantly offer new payment solutions, including mobile ones," she said. Katarzyna Sosin is sure that Visa will retain its leadership positions in the market of payment system.
Visa is a global payments technology company that connects consumers, businesses, banks and governments in more than 200 countries and territories, enabling them to use electronic payments instead of cash and checks. Visa has built one of the world's most advanced processing networks. It's capable of handling more than 24,000 transactions per second, with reliability, convenience and security, including fraud protection for consumers and guaranteed payment for merchants. Every day, VisaNet connects up to 2.1 billion cards, tens of millions of acceptance locations, 2.0 million ATMs and 14,700 financial institutions. The annual trade turnover of Visa is 4.8 trillion dollars. Armenia launched acquiring Visa Int. cards in 2001. At present there are 12 banks in the country that issue and serve Visa International cards. As of April 1 2013 the number of active Visa cards in the banking system of Armenia exceeded 515,000, with a 40% year over year growth.
Visa estimates eCommerce volume to grow from $948 billion in 2010 to $1.365 trillion in 2013. This indicator will grow tenfold by 2020.
