Armenia marks World Savings Day on October 31
ArmInfo. The World Savings Day is marked on October 31. In this context, Armenia launched a project in October to raise the public awareness of the financial field.
According to the World Bank, 66% of Armenia's citizens save money and only 6% of them trust their savings to the banking system. When commenting on ArmInfo's question, Armenuhi Mkrtchyan, Head of the Department for Protection of Consumers' Rights of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA), explained that the population does not trust the banking system because of low awareness.
The participants in the project are the Central Bank of Armenia, Deposit Guarantee Foundation, NASDAQ OMX Armenia, SBFIC, as well as the banks of Armenia, particularly, ProCredit Bank, ArmBusinessBank, INECOBANK, Converse Bank, Areximbank-Gazprombank Group, ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank, Araratbank, and Mellat Bank.
The World Savings Day was established on October 31, 1924, during the 1st International Savings Bank Congress (World Society of Savings Banks) in Milan, Italy. The Italian Professor Filippo Ravizza declared this day the "International Saving Day" on the last day of the congress. In the resolutions of the Thrift Congress it was decided that 'World Thrift Day' should be a day devoted to the promotion of savings all over the World.
