VTB Bank (Armenia) to conduct in-depth analysis of failure in its own processing center
ArmInfo. VTB Bank (Armenia) will conduct an in-depth analysis of failure in its own processing center to prevent such situations in future, Armen Sargsyan, Head of Operations Department at VTB Bank (Armenia), told reporters, Monday. To recall, the Bank's customers, including pensioners, failed to dispense their money ATM's or through POS-terminals due to a technical failure at the Bank's processing center on 4 March.
"The Bank's processing center was put into service in 2003. Actually, it was the first big failure since then," Sargsyan said. He explained that they immediately responded to the failure and tried to liquidate it operatively. "It was problematic also because the Bank was to start transferring the pensions on the personal accounts of pensioners on that very day. The bank serves nearly 58,000 pensioner-customers," he said. In this light, Sargsan said that in the period of failure, the bank's customers were paid their pensions and salaries at the bank's branches. "They were required to have with them passports. The Bank provided enough cash to its branches in order all the cardholders could receive their money at cashier desks," he said.
According to Sargsyan, the failure was partially liquidated on 6 March early in the morning. So, already on Thursday, pensioners could use their cards. The other customers of the bank could make transactions starting Friday, 7 March.
He said that no customer data were lost as a result of the failure in the processing center, as data are stored also in the Bank's software system. "We have restored the database entirely on a new platform with use of new technology. However, final liquidation of all risks is impossible without detailed analysis of the failure reasons," hew said.
VTB Bank (Armenia) joined VTB Group in April 2004. Russian VTB Bank OJSC holds 100% stake in VTB Bank (Armenia).
