Financial Ombudsperson: Most of complaints concern insurance companies and banks

From the moment of establishment (2009) till 1 July 2014 the Office of the Financial System Mediator received 7192 complaints, of which 2001 were subject to consideration. 70% of the precedents with positive outcome were settled via reconciliation, Armenia's Financial Ombudsperson Piruz Sargsyan said at an international conference in Tsaghkadzor. She pointed out that the major part of the complaints concerned the activities of the banks and insurance companies.
In the first half of 2014 the Office of the Financial System Mediator received 1267 complaints from individuals. The complaints were against financial organizations, and 1037 were submiited for consideration (versus 724 in I half of 2013Ј). According to the official information, 392 of the total complains considered by the Financial Ombudsperson in the first half of 2014 were against insurance companies (67.5% more than in the first half of 2013). 269 of them concerned motor third party liability insurance (almost 2-fold growth), 62 - health insurance (51% growth), 48 - transport insurance (55% growth), 7 - property insurance, 2 - travel insurance. Over the period under review, the Financial Ombudsperson also considered 111 complaints against the banks. 54 of the complaints concerned loan transactions, 38 - payment and settlement operations, 6 - deposit operations, and 13 - other operations.
The source says that the total number of the complaints considered in the first half of 2014 was 320 (versus 316 in the first half of 2013). 149 of these cases were settled via reconciliation. On 88 cases the claims were not satisfied, on 46 cases the claims were satisfied partly, on 27 cases the consideration of the claims were stopped and on 8 cases the claims were satisfied entirely.
