Financial ombudsperson: People complain about MTPLI more
Arminfo. Motor Third Person Liability Insurance (MTPLI) still remain the most controversial and irritating type of insurance for the Armenian consumers of the insurance services. As Armenia's financial ombudsperson, Piruz Sargsyan, said people complain about MTPLI most of all.
"70% of complaints against the insurance companies that financial ombudsperson's office receives, are about the MTPLI, and the number of those who apply to the office grow by 1,5 times year by year", - she said and added that Armenian drivers chiefly complain about non-adequate calculation of the size of compensation by the insurance companies and apply to the financial ombudsperson to attract independent experts.
In general, since 2009 till November 2014, the financial ombudsperson's office has received 7753 complaints against financial organizations, including 1830 against the insurance companies. 1296 out of them were regarding the MTPLI, 212 - other types of motor insurance and 267 - medical insurance.
She also added that 62-67% of complaints are settled in favor of clients, and the lion's share of complaints are settled through reconciliation of the parties.
According to the data of the Financial Ombudsperson's Office, since January 2009 till 27 August 2014, the total volume of compensations paid to individual persons through mediation of the Financial Ombudsperson's Office has amounted to 554 million AMD. Since the beginning of 2014 the Office has received 2055 complaints against financial organizations. The total of 101 million AMD compensation were paid to clients for the current year chiefly through reconciliation of the parties.
To note, services of Financial Ombudsperson's Office, functioning in Armenia since 2009, are free of charge, as financial organizations themselves pay for its work.
