This week AMD/USD exchange rate exceeds 450 AMD/1USD amid drop of transactions at NASDAQ OMX Armenia and sudden boost of interbank operations
ArmInfo. On December 1-5, the currency transactions at NASDAQ OMX Armenia dropped amid sudden boost of interbank operations. As a result, the AMD/USD exchange rate in the retail currency market of Armenia has risen from 436.5 to 451 AMD/$1 and retains the upward tendency. From October till now the AMD devaluation against USD has been about 10%.
The press service of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) that on December 1-5 currency operations at NASDAQ OMX Armenia totaled $3.5 mln (92% decline versus the previous week) at the average exchange rate of 438.62 AMD/$1. This was the only transaction this week (Dec 1). In the interbank currency market, the currency purchase and sale operations amounted to $59.3 mln at the average exchange rate of 442.42 AMD/$1 (35-fold rise).
The source says that in the intrabank currency market (transactions with customers) the banks bought $69 mln on Dec 1-5 (down 41.4% versus the previous week) at the average exchange rate of 438.91 AMD/$1, and sold $145.4 mln (up 8.9%) at the average exchange rate of 442.91 AMD/$1. In the meantime, the banks bought 7.7 mln EUR (down 1.2%) at the average exchange rate of 544.54 AMD/1EUR, and sold 13.1 mln EUR (down 25.9%) at the exchange rate of 556.85 AMD/1EUR. The banks also bought 713.3 mln RUR (9.4% rise) at the average exchange rate of 8.38 AMD/1RUR and sold 228.2 mln RUR (8% decline) at the exchange rate of 8.77 AMD/1RUR.
On 24-30 November, Armenian banks provided AMD loans worth 48.5 bln AMD and USD loans worth $75.4 mln. As compared with the previous week, AMD loans rose by 21.6%, and USD loans - by 45.8%.
