ArmInfo. Armenia is ready to carve out a niche in agricultural products, earlier supplied by Turkey. Yerevan is ready to increase the production of vegetables and fruits aimed at capturing share of the Russian market, official representative of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Aleksey Alekseenko told Sputnik Uzbekistan.
According to him, the news on restrictions on the import of the Turkish vegetables and fruits have encouraged Russia's other neighbours Georgia and Azerbaijan, who are ready to significantly increase the supply of their products, which are of quite high quality. Iran is also ready to export.
As Alekseenko stated, Russians will not suffer a shortage in vegetables and fruits. According to him, Russia did not have big demand in these products, as the country increased the production in the North Caucasus, Kuban, Stavropol, Rostov and Volgograd regions.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich announced at the meeting with the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev that import of Turkish vegetables and fruits will be banned but the restrictions will come into force in several weeks. On Saturday the Russian President signed a decree on special economic measures against Turkey as a response to Turkey's shooting down the warplane Su-24. Putin limited the import of certain Turkish products to Russia, the list of which the government had to decide.
