Trade sector in Armenia experiences insignificant decline due to  upward trend of wholesale trade

ArmInfo. In Jan-Apr 2016 versus Jan-Apr 2015, the revenues from the trade sector dropped by 0.7% only (versus 7.6% decline a year before) to 601 bln AMD ($1.2 bln) due to the upward trend of wholesale trade. In particular, in Jan-Apr 2016, the wholesale trade grew by 5.7% to 240.5 bln AMD ($494 mln) versus 8.7% decline a year before. In April 2016, the trade turnover in Armenia declined by 2.4% to 165.6 bln AMD ($344 mln). 

 
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in Jan-Apr 2016 versus Jan-Apr 2015 retail trade fell by 4.6% (versus 6.6% decline a year before) to 341.4 bln AMD ($702 mln). In April alone, the revenues from retail trade grew by 0.1% to 92.6 bln AMD ($192.4). In the structure of retail trade, the share of stores (including supermarkets) was the biggest - 258 bln AMD, or 75.7% (1.7% year-over-year growth). The share of other trade outlets was 45.6 bln 
AMD or 13.4% (29.2% decline); the share of consumer markets was 22.9 
bln AMD or 6.7% (6.5% decline); the share of stalls was 8.8 bln AMD 
or 2.6% (4.1% decline), and the share of farm markets made up 5.5 bln 
AMD or 1.6% (1.5% growth).
 
In Jan-Apr 2016, the purchase and sale of cars dropped by 1.5% (versus 12.9% decline in Jan-Apr 2015) to 19.2 bln AMD ($39.4 mln). In April alone, the car trade grew by 31.7% to 6.4 bln AMD ($13.2 mln). 
 
In the structure of the total trade turnover of Armenia, retail trade made up 56.8%, wholesale trade - 40%, and the purchase and sale of cars made up 3.2%. 
 
In Jan-Apr 2016, the average AMD/USD exchange rate was 486.82 AMD/$1, and in April 2016 - 481.27 AMD/$1 versus 476.46 AMD/$1 in Jan-Apr 2015 and 474.07 AMD/$1 in April 2015.
