Possibility of introducing compulsory medical insurance system being  studied in Armenia

Arminfo.Healthcare Minister of  Armenia Levon Altunyan considers possible introducing system of  compulsory medical insurance, he stated about this after government's  session today commenting to ArmInfo on the prospects of implying  compulsory health insurance in Armenia. 

At the same time the Minister said that activities are already held  to introduce the system in the country. "I think that our government  will finally prefer compulsory medical insurance as the only possible  efficient method of financing medical services", he said. According  to him the relevant program will be presented to the political  authorities of the country. 

To note, the issue of introducing mandatory medical insurance in  Armenia was being discussed back in 2014. Head of State Health Agency  Saro Tsaturyan was stating then that the program had been developed  and presented to the government, however the process was frozen.  According to the plan medical insurance would be compulsory for all  the working citizens both in state and private sectors. The Head of  the Agency was noting that the activities on the concept  implementation would continue if political decision was made.
