Deputy minister: Armenia has all prerequisites for construction of a  geothermal power plant

ArmInfo. Armenia is  completing the appraisal of the geothermal resources of Karkar  section in Syunik province, Armenian Deputy Minister of Energy  Infrastructures and Natural Resources Areg Galstyan said in  Parliament on October 27.     

He said that the first results of the surveys inspire optimism. In  particular, the matter concerns compliance with temperature and  pressure requirements. As soon as the final findings are received, it  will be possible to think about construction of a 30 MW geothermal  power plant. Unlike other sources of alternative energy, the  specified geothermal power plant will have a base-load capacity. 

Under the project funded by the Climate Investment Funds 9 mln USD,  with the Armenian Government's co-finance being almost 2 mln USD,  three wells will be drilled. The capacity of the geothermal plant is  expected to be 30MW, and the annual electric power output will be 250  mln KW, the Ministry previously reported. The construction of the  geothermal power plant is estimated at 100 mln USD.
