Karen Karapetyan: We have a special attitude towards near-border villages

ArmInfo. During a working  visit to Tavush Province of Armenia, Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan  instructed the heads of the local administrations to present  community develo0ment programs to the Government by late 2016.

He said the priority will be given to the most promising programs, in  which the communities also assume certain obligations and do not only  expect the Government's support. "We are going to have partner  relations," he said.

Governor of Tavush Hovik Abovyan stressed the difficulties related to  attraction of investments, because Tavush is a near-border province.  Nevertheless, he said that there are several enterprises in the  province and that by 2020 the number of jobs in the light industry  sector will be increased to 2000. He added that special attention is  paid to grape processing.

Karapetyan added for his part that the province also borders on  Georgia and it has a great potential for tourism development.

As regards the near-border villages and road problems, Karapetyan  stressed that the Government will carry out road rehabilitation  operations. "We have a special attitude towards the near-border  villages. We won't speak to them in a business language. We have a  compulsory program to implement there," he said.
