Armenia intends to fill the Russian cheese market niche

ArmInfo. Armenia is intended to develop the processing of yellow cheese, Armen Harutyunyan, the Deputy Minister of Argiculture stated at the press  conference on December 2.

Following Harutyunyan, the volumes of yellow cheese processing should be increased within the reference to Russian market. During the period that anti Russian bans were set to apply, European countries stopped supplying cheese to Russian market. A gap occurred, which Armenian producer could not fill " To our regret, Armenian cheese processors could not meet the demand of Russian consumers," Armen Harutyunyan stated.

As Deputy Minister stated, about 10 days ago  in Gegharkunik district  a newest enterprise was opened processing European  cheese. If the latest technologies will be applied in this sector, Armenia may occupy the appropriate niche at Russia's cheese market.

To remind, yet in September 2010 Armenian Government allocated AMD 7,2 mln to the Armenian Agency of Development to  provide financial support to Armenian Cheese JSC. The Company of Armenian Cheese was registered at the end of 2009 and is a private company with 50% shares of state, represented by Armenian Agency on Development and Cheese processors Association. The objective of the company is to capsulate tools and marketing projects, to promote  the export of Armenian cheese within state support.  According to the expert evaluation, Armenia has a capability to export  to Russian up to 80 000 tons of cheese every year.
