Government has chosen winner of tender for construction of Vedi water reservoir

ArmInfo. The winner of the  tender for construction of water reservoir in Vedi will be announced  in the upcoming days, Chairman of State Department on Water Systems  under Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources Arsen  Harutyunyan told journalists today.

According to him construction work will be launched in spring 2017  and will last for 4 years. "The reservoir storage capacity will total  29 mln cu. m, which will be later increased in order to supply water  to more agricultural areas that need irrigation", he stressed.

The new reservoir will be constructed for regulating annual flows of  Vedi and Khosrov rivers for their further use for irrigating adjacent  lands in Ararat valley. The French Development Agency has provided  the main part of funds for construction amounting to 75 mln EUR, the  government will allocate 0.5 mln EUR.

At the same time at the beginning of 2017 a tender will be announced  for construction of Kaps water reservoir, which will last for 5  years. Harutyunyan informed that construction will be conducted in  two phases. At the end of the first phase capacity of Kaps reservoir  will total 25 mln cu.m, on the second phase it will be increased to  60 mln cu.m. Due to Kaps reservoir the irrigated territories will  reach 5 thousand ha.

To note, the government also plans to build Yeghvard water reservoir,  as well as Selav-Mastara reservoirs.

At the same time Harutyunyan informed that in 2017 within the program  with WB Armenia will be included in the list of the countries, where  systems will be implied to follow content of water in rivers,  reservoirs and water pipelines.  At the same time within a joint  program with WB on increasing efficiency of irrigation systems it is  planned to introduce systems of automatic water supply in  Geghardalanch, Kaghtsrashen, Baghramyan-Noyakert and Meghri.

However, Harutyunyan thinks that number one task is to ensure 100% of  water record, in order to keep in balance amount of supplied water.
