Financial Mediator: Major part of individuals` complaints falls on insurance sector

ArmInfo. In 2016, the major  part (49.3%) of the individuals' complaints submitted to the Armenian  Financial Mediator's Office falls on the insurance sector. 70% or  1154 complaints concern the motor third party liability (MTPL)  insurance contracts (including the Motor Insurers' Bureau), Financial  Mediator Piruz Sargsyan said at a press conference on Jan 24. She  noted that in 2016 as many as 2336 complaints about insurance  (including 1248 in the written form) were submitted to the Financial  Mediator's Office. 

Sargsyan pointed out that the number of complaints about banking  services was 1417 (including 232 in the written form). The complaints  mainly concerned deposit contracts, loan operations, money transfers,  etc.  Customers also complained of plastic card services. There were  163 complaints about credit organizations (including 19 in the  written form), and the number of complaints about the Motor Insurers'  Bureau was 41 (including 18 in the written form).

In 2016, the number of complaints grew by 15% to 4735, within 87% of  which (4118) falling on the financial system (up 26% versus 2015).  The total amount of indemnities paid to the citizens by the financial  structures made up 157.3 mln AMD. 228 more cases taken for  consideration of the Financial Mediator in 2016 are not over yet. 72%  of the cases have been settled in favor of individual customers, with  57.37% of them - through reconciliation of the sides. 

Since the launch of the Financial Mediator's Office (since 24 Jan  2009), financial organizations have paid out indemnities in the  amount of over 1 bln AMD under 5768 cases through the mediation of  the Office.  The total number of applications submitted to the Office  over the past 8 years is 18,310.

According to the Armenian Financial Mediator's Office, 1091 (the  major part) of the total number of cases in 2015 were against  insurance companies, 327- against banks, 15 - against the Motor  Insurers' Bureau, and 14 - against credit companies.
