The volume of cargo transportation in Armenia in January-February of 2017 increased by 95.7% to 3,751.4 thousand tons against the same period of the previous year, against growth of 48.1% a year earlier. Of these, 2,924.3 thousand tons (78% of the total) accounted for road transport, which is 2.5 times more than the figure of a year ago. This is stated in the report of the National Statistical Service of Armenia.
According to statistical data, rail freight traffic for the reporting period decreased by 1.6% to 380.3 thousand tons. Air transportation increased by 47.1% to 2.5 thousand tons. 444.3 thousand tons of natural gas was delivered via the main pipeline, which is 28.9% more than the figure of 2016. Freight turnover increased by 24.3% to 886.2 million ton-km. Passenger traffic for the reporting period decreased by 6.4% - to 30111.2 thousand people. Moreover, vehicle transportation decreased by 6.8% to 27029 thousand people, railway transportation by 6.9% to 44.5 thousand people, transportation of passengers by electric transport by 5.4% to 2,728.1 thousand people. At the same time, passenger transportation by air, by contrast, increased by 21.7% to 309.6 thousand people. Passenger turnover decreased by 3.8% to 379.2 million passenger-km.
