ArmInfo. On August 28, Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills. The head of the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers stressed the importance of holding periodic meetings, which are a good opportunity for an exchange of views on the course and prospects for the development of cooperation.
As reported by the press office of the Armenian executive body, Ambassador Mills expressed regret over the fire in the state reserve "Khosrov Forest", noting that the United States knows first hand about the difficulties of combating such disasters. He noted that the American diplomatic mission is in constant contact with the emergency and nature protection ministries to clarify technical and expert support in eliminating the consequences of the fire.
Concerning the work on improving the business environment and fighting corruption, Ambassador Mills welcomed the efforts of the head of government in the anti-corruption struggle, which led to an increase in the interest of American companies and investors to Armenia. "We continue to explore ways of helping your efforts and developing bilateral trade, increasing investment," the diplomat said, noting the desire to best promote the efforts of the government in this matter.
According to Richard Mills, recently he received many positive signals from US companies operating in Armenia regarding the activities of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia. At the same time, he noted the US readiness to continue supporting the initiatives of the Armenian government to further improve the business environment.
Karen Karapetyan, in his turn, thanked him for his willingness to provide assistance, noting that an analysis of the situation in the Khosrov forest will be carried out in the near future, after which the interaction with the American side will become more objective. Touching upon the positive assessment of the activity of the RA SRC, the premier noted that, nevertheless, much remains to be done in this direction. "The reforms will have a long-term character and we are determined to improve the business environment and combat corruption, as these steps are a necessity for the development of the economy of the republic," the prime minister said.
The interlocutors also discussed reforms in the sphere of justice. Karen Karapetyan informed that at this stage a roadmap on reforms in the judicial and legal system is being developed, and in this direction, Armenian colleagues hope for the support of their American partners.
Karen Karapetyan and Richard Mills also discussed other issues of the Armenian-American agenda.
