Serzh Sargsyan: Georgia very decently fulfills both its neighbors and other obligations in terms of the transit of products to the countries of EAEU

ArmInfo. On the correctness  of Armenia's entrance  to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is not  necessary, the results speak for themselves. Armenian President Serzh  Sargsyan stated in an interview with bfm.ru.

According to him, many doubted the correctness of this decision of  Armenia, but most do not. "We made the right choice, we see the first  results: first, the economic situation stabilized in 2016, there was  a small but still a growth, we have about 5% of GDP growth in the  first eight months of this year. We had a big increase in deliveries  of export goods both to Russia and to the markets of the EAEU  countries, and according to the results of eight months of 2017,  compared to the same period of the previous year, we have an increase  of just over 34%, mutual trade turnover of the EAEU member countries  with the third countries grew by more than 25%, " Sargsyan said.

Answering the question whether the factor of Georgia could become a  brake on the development of trade between Russia and Armenia, the  Armenian leader noted that if Yerevan had bad relations with Tbilisi,  of course, it could. "But we did not have such cases, at present  Armenia does not have the opportunity to conduct trade relations  (with the EAEU countries) except through Georgia. Initially, those  people who dealt with formation formation and the Customs Union and  the Eurasian Economic Union probably thought , that this is a big  obstacle, but after they calmly understood, they realized that this  is not so, of course, this may be in some sense such a technical  barrier, but it can be overcome. I am very decent in fulfilling my  neighbors and other obligations, so, of course, the barrier here is  not a very good road, I mean, the mountain road: downpours, snowfalls  and everything else. Now we are thinking how to do it still the  second road, "the Armenian leader said.

Armenian leader also stressed that Armenia periodically raises issue  of  simplifying the delivery of products to Russia: "On the one hand,  we need to improve the work of checkpoints, on the other - to find  alternative forms of delivery of this product to the Russian market."  It does not always work, and time is needed to improve any work,  "Sargsyan said.
