ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, who is on an official visit to Beirut, met with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, according to the press service of the Armenian government.
"Two weeks ago, in Yerevan, we had an opportunity to exchange views on the agenda of the Armenian- Lebanese cooperation, we attach importance to constant contacts at a high level and a dialogue with friendly Lebanon.The economic potential of our bilateral relations, as I noted earlier, is high and it needs to be if possible, "Karapetyan said. In turn, the Lebanese leader expressed confidence that the visit of the Armenian Prime Minister will contribute to an even greater development of the Armenian-Lebanese friendly relations. At the same time, he expressed his readiness to assist the initiatives of the Governments of the two countries, as well as the implementation of joint projects. The interlocutors discussed a number of issues on expanding trade and economic contacts, touched upon the opportunities of Lebanese companies to take advantage of the preferential trade regimes operating for Armenia and the prospects for development of cooperation in various fields. The Armenian PM noted that from the point of view of developing bilateral economic relations it is important to combine the advantages that the economies of the RA and Lebanon possess, adding that today the Armenian economy has a good tendency to growth and it will be preserved in the coming years. The head of the Armenian government also met with the chairman of the Lebanese parliament Nabi Berri. Karapetyan noted that the political relations between the two countries are substantially inferior to economic ones, and active work should be done towards their activation. He spoke about the agreements reached during the meeting with the Lebanese counterpart to stimulate economic cooperation. The Armenian Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Lebanese Parliament for the recognition and condemnation (in 2000) of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
