Over Q1 2010 ROE of Armenian banking system amounted to 2,42%, and ROA to 0,5%
ArmInfo. Over Q1 2010 return on equity (ROE) of the Armenian banking system made up 2,42%, having increased by almost 2% as compared with Q1 2009. Over the period under review, return on assets (ROA) made up 0.5%, having grown by 0,4% as compared with Q1 2009. According to the Ranking of Commercial Banks of Armenia by the Agency of Rating Marketing Information, the improvement of ROE and ROA indices over Q1 2010 is conditioned by the favorable balance of currency valuation fixed among half of the banks, whereas a year ago the currency valuation balance was unfavorable and considerably exceeded the positive level of Q1 2010 due to the abrupt AMD devaluation in March.
By ROE indices the top five includes HSBC Bank Armenia - 5,34%, Converse Bank - 5,04%, INECOBANK - 4,57%, Armenian Development Bank - 4,21% and Artsakhbank - 4,11%, and the top ten includes ARARATBANK (3,86%), VTB Bank (Armenia) (3,34%), Ardshininvestbank (3,03%), ArmSwissBank (2,92%) and ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank (2,75%). By ROA level, the top five includes BTA Bank - 1,51%, Armenian Development Bank - 1,16%, ArmSwissBank - 1,14%, INECOBANK - 0,96% and Converse Bank - 0,78%, and the top ten includes ARARATBANK (0,77%), HSBC Bank Armenia (0,7%), VTB Bank (Armenia) (0,7%), Artsakhbank (0,67%) and Cascade Bank (0,63%).
The summary total capital of the commercial banks annually grew by 21,4%, over Q1 2010 - by 3,4% (against 2,3% growth over Q1 2009), having amounted to 296 bln AMD ($738.8 mln) by 31 March 2010. The summary assets increased by 24,2%, over Q1 2010 alone - by 4,5% (against 10,2% growth over Q1 2009), having amounted to 1.418 trln AMD ($3.5 bln) by 31 March 2010. The summary undistributed profit amounted to 6.8 bln AMD ($16.9 mln), having annually grown almost 6 times (against 82% annual decline over Q1 2009).
By the amount of the total capital, the top five includes ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank - 36.2 bln AMD, Ardshininvestbank - 27.3 bln AMD, VTB Bank (Armenia) - 25.8 bln AMD, Ameriabank - 22.3 bln AMD and HSBC Bank Armenia - 17.9 bln AMD. By the volume of assets, the top five includes ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank - 174.4 bln AMD, HSBC Bank Armenia - 138.8 bln AMD, VTB Bank (Armenia) - 125.6 bln AMD, Ardshininvestbank - 118.1 bln AMD and ArmBusinessBank - 115.8 bln AMD. By the level of undistributed profit over Q1 2010 the top five includes ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank - 981.1 mln AMD, HSBC Bank Armenia - 934.5 mln AMD, Ardshininvestbank - 733.3 mln AMD, VTB Bank (Armenia) - 669.6 mln AMD and Converse Bank - 624.3 mln AMD.
