Deposits raised by Armenian commercial banks fell by 3,3% to $1.687 bln in May 2010
ArmInfo. Deposits raised by Armenian commercial banks for May 2010 were up 21%, as compared with May 2009 and down 3,3% for May to 639.8 bln AMD ($1.687 bln) by 1 June 2010. In the structure of raised deposits, the share of deposits in Armenian dram was 25,8% or 164.9 bln AMD($435 mln), the share of deposits in foreign exchange was 74,2% or $1.2 bln (474.8 bln AMD). The share of deposits in drams was up 1,3% for May 2010 and down 2% as compared with May 2009.
By preliminary data of Armenian Central Bank provided to ArmInfo by the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the share of deposits of non-residents was 17,8% or 114.1 bln AMD (1% decline for May, 12% annual growth), including 6.8 bln AMD dram deposits (10,5% decline for May, 5,6% annual growth). The share of deposits of non-residents in foreign exchange totaled 107.3 bln AMD (0,3% decline for May, 13,4% annual growth).
Deposits of residents made up 82,1% of the total volume of deposits, or 525.6 bln AMD, including 158.1 bln AMD dram deposits (2,2% growth for May). Deposits of residents in foreign exchange totaled 367.5 bln AMD (6,2% decline for May).
The share of call liabilities in deposits of residents was 38,6% or 203.1 bln AMD (3,4% decline for May), the share of time deposits was 61,4% or 322.6 bln AMD (4,1% decline for May).
Call liabilities in drams grew 1,5% in October and by 6% to 100.3 bln AMD, whereas call liabilities in foreign currency fell by 10,8% to 102.7 bln AMD. Time deposits in drams fell by 3,5% to 57.7 bln AMD in May 2010, whereas time deposits in foreign exchange fell by 4,3% to 264.8 bln AMD.
Balance of population deposits as of 1 June 2010 totaled 302.3 bln AMD, having declined by 1,7% as compared with April 2010 and grown by 29,8% as compared with May 2009. Time deposits of the population fell by 1,5% for May 2010 and grew by 29,7% to 226.9 bln AMD.
Interest rates on deposits in terms of Armenian dram grew from 9,08% to 9,73% in May 2010, and by 0.8% as compared with May 2009.
