Armenian banks raise 6.9% more deposits in Armenian dram for 2010
ArmInfo. Deposits raised by Armenian commercial banks 2010 were up almost 7%, and 6.7% for December to 702.3 billion drams ($1.9 billion). In the structure of raised deposits, the share of deposits in Armenian dram was 31% or 217.9 billion drams ($600 million), the share of deposits in foreign exchange was 69% or $1.3 billion (484.4 billion drams). The share of deposits in drams in total was up 4.4 percentage points for 2010.
By preliminary data of Armenian Central Bank provided to ArmInfo by the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the share of deposits of non-residents was 16.4% (down 6.2% for Dec) to 115.4 billion drams, including 6.9 billion drams deposits in terms of the national dram (down 5.5% for Dec). The share of deposits of non-residents in foreign exchange totaled 108.4 billion drams (down 6.3% for Dec). Deposits of residents made up 83.6% of total or 586.9 billion dram including 211 billion drams deposits in terms of Armenian dram and 375.9 billion drams deposits of residents in foreign exchange. The share of call liabilities in deposits of residents was 39.8% or 233.2 billion drams and the share of time deposits was 60.2% or 353.7 billion drams.
Balance of population deposits as of Jan 1 2010 totaled 356.3 billion drams growing 7.7% versus November and 24.1% versus 2009. Time deposits of the population grew 7.2% for December and 24.1% per year to 265.5 billion drams.
Interest rates on deposits in terms of Armenian dram were down from 9.04% to 8.76% in December and up 0.66% versus 2009.
