Monetary base in Armenia up 1% for 2010
ArmInfo. Monetary base in Armenia was down almost 1% for2010 to 507.5 billion drams ($1.4 million) on Jan 1 2011. Preliminary data of the Armenian Central Bank provided by the National Statistical Service of Armenia say that monetary base grew 11.5% for Dec 2010.
In the structure of monetary base, cash circulating outside the Central Bank grew 8.5% for 2010 (10.6% for Dec 2010) and totaled 348.1 billion drams on Jan 1 2011. The share of compulsory dram reserves in total monetary base made up 11.3% or 57.5 billion drams. It was down for December 7.3% and up 42.3% versus 2009. The share of compulsory foreign exchange reserves was 17.4% of total or 88.2 billion drams. It was down 40.7% over 2010 (up 16.6% for Dec).
The source reported that external reserves (exclusive of privatization funds) was down 13.8% for 2010 to 451.1 billion drams (1% up for Dec). Internal assets grew almost 4-fold and totaled 56.4 billion drams on Jan 1 2011.
Capital requirement to the government totaled negative 95.6 billion drams and grew 28.2% for Dec. The share of banks in total internal assets was 57.4 billion drams growing 0.8% for Dec. In the structure of internal assets, REPO transactions grew 60,7% for Dec and totaled 8 billion drams.
