By late January 2011 number of active plastic cards annually grew by 25.5% to 573 thsd
ArmInfo. In January 2011 the number of active plastic cards issued by ArCa member banks grew by 25.5% as compared with January 2010 to 572940.
Armenian Card told ArmInfo that as of 1 Feb 2011, the share of local ArCa cards made up 52.4% or 300.4 thsd (6.1% annual growth), Visa cards - 28% or 160.2 thsd (42.7% annual growth), and MasterCard – 19.6% or 112.3 thsd (83.3% growth). Over Jan 2010 a total of 11815cards were issued, this index being by 1.3% lower than the index of the similar period of 2010.
According to the source, over the period under review, operations with 379.5 thsd cards or 66.2% of the total number of active cards were carried out (21.1% annual growth).
According to Armenian Card, as of 1 Feb 2011 the number of trade and service points and cash dispensing points in the Armenian Card system (bancomats exclusive) amounted to 2977 (31.9% annual growth), of them 338 being cash dispensing points (9.4% annual growth). There are a total of 3481 POS-terminals (34.3% annual growth) in the trade and service points, of them 434 in cash dispensing points (11.3% annual growth).
3263 POS-terminals served local ArCa cards, 1990 - Visa, and 2953 - MasterCard. As of 1 Feb 2011 there were a lot of 675 bancomats in Armenia (14.8% annual growth).
To recall, 66% of Armenian Card shares belong to the Central Bank, the rest of the shares - 17 ArCa member cards (2% in each of the banks).
