Over Q1 2011 economic activity index in Armenia grew from 73% to 128.3%
ArmInfo. Over Q1 2011 the economic activity index in Armenia rose from 73% to 128.3%, and from 102.7% to 106.3% as compared with Q1 2010. The press service of the Central Bank of Armenia told ArmInfo that the considerable quarterly growth of the economic activity index is conditioned by the low index in Q4 and positive expectations in Q2.
Over Q1 the evaluation balance of the respondents dropped in all spheres of economy. Production and supply are low especially in the industrial sector where the number of employees and their salaries will remain unchanged in the next quarter, and the prices and production capacities will grow. In the construction sector, trade and services the evaluation balance of expectations for the next quarter has abruptly increased.
According to the source, over Q1 2011 the business climate index dropped from 95% to 94.2%, and from 105% to 96% as compared with Q1 2010. As compared with Q4 2010, the business climate is estimated negatively in all fields of economy. The business climate index has annually increased only in the services sphere - to 102.7%.
The indices are calculated by averaging the balances of actual evaluation and expectations. The actual balance of economic activity is calculated by the respondents' assessment of production and demand, and the balance of expectations - by possible production output in the next quarter, demand for products or services, and volumes of reserves.
To recall, the given survey of the Central Bank of Armenia has been held since 2005 among the operating enterprises (in the spheres of industry, construction industry and services, including retail trade)and aims to evaluate the current economic situation and expectations. The methodology of index calculation is based on the principles worked out by Conference Board (USA) and IFO Institute (Germany).
