Deposits in Armenian banks up 8.2% to 754.8 bln AMD for Q1 2011
ArmInfo. The deposits raised by the Armenian commercial banks for March 2011 were up 5%, and 8.2% for Jan-Mar 2011 (8.7% annual growth) and totaled 754.8 billion drams ($2.041 billion).
In the structure of the raised deposits, the share of deposits in Armenian dram was 29.7% or 224.6 billion drams ($607.5 million), the share of deposits in foreign exchange was 70.3% or $1.434 billion 530.2 billion drams). The share of deposits in drams was down 0.6% for March 2011.
By preliminary data of the Armenian Central Bank provided to ArmInfo by the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the share of deposits of non-residents was 16.6% or 125.4 bln AMD (7.6 growth in March), including 8 billion AMD deposits in drams (7.6% growth in March). The share of deposits of non-residents in foreign exchange totaled 117.4 billion drams (7.6% growth in March).
Deposits of residents made up 83.4% of total or 629.4 billion AMD, including 216.6 billion drams deposits in terms of Armenian dram. Deposits of residents in foreign exchange totaled 412.8 billion drams. The share of call liabilities in deposits of residents was 38.5% or 242.4 billion drams; the share of time deposits was 61.5% or 387 billion drams.
Balance of population deposits as of April 1 2011 totaled 375.6 billion drams, having grown by 2.5% versus February and 19.7% versus March 2010. Interest rates on deposits in terms of Armenian dram were down from 9.23% to 9.05% in March 2011, and up 0.5% versus March 2010.
