Over Q2 2011 economic activity index in Armenia dropped from 128.3% to 106.7% while business climate index rose from 94.2% to 107.8%
ArmInfo. Over Q2 2011 the economic activity index in Armenia dropped from 128.3% to 106.7% (106% annual decline). At the same time the business climate index rose from 94.2% to 107.8% (94.8% annual growth). The press service of the Central Bank of Armenia told ArmInfo that the annual growth of the economic activity index was ensured by the positive expectations in the sphere of services and industrial sector for the industrial output and demand growth, while in the construction sector the economic activity dropped. Personnel and salaries are expected to grow in the industrial sector, sphere of services and construction sector, and production capacities are expected to grow in the industrial sector.
The source says that due to the worsening of assessment of the expected risks, the business climate index annually dropped in all spheres, except the construction sector. In particular, the industrial sector and trade sphere had an impact on the reduction of the business climate index by the worsening of all components, and the sphere of services - by the low assessment of the current situation.
The indices are calculated by the method of averaging the factual estimations and expectations. The factual balance of economic activity is calculated by the pollees' assessments concerning the production output and demand level, and the balance of expectations - by the possible production output in the next quarter, the level of demand for products and services, and reserves.
To recall, the given public opinion poll of the Central Bank has been held since 2005 among the operating enterprises (in the spheres of industry, construction and services, including retail trade) and aims to assess the current economic situation and expectations. The methodology of calculation of the indices is based on the principles worked out by the Conference Board (USA) and IFO Institute (Germany).
