Monetary base in Armenia down 2.2% for May 2011
ArmInfo. Monetary base in Armenia was down 2.2% for May 2011 to 488.9 bln drams ($1.297 bln) as of June 1 2011. Preliminary data of the Armenian Central Bank provided by the National Statistical Service of Armenia say that monetary base fell 3.6% for Jan-May 2011.
In the structure of monetary base, cash circulating outside the Central Bank grew 3.4% for May and totaled 330.6 billion drams as of June 1.for Jan-May this indicator fell 5%. The share of compulsory dram reserves in total monetary base made up 18.4% or 89.8 billion drams (down 12.8% for May and 56.3% for Jan-May). The share of compulsory foreign exchange reserves totaled 11.4% of total or 55.8 billion drams (down 12.4% for May and 36.7% for Jan-May 2011).
The source reported that external reserves (exclusive of privatization funds) were down 3.2% for May 2011 to 375.1 billion drams (down 17.3% for Jan-May).
Internal assets totaled were up 1.6% to 113.7 billion drams. Capital requirement to the government totaled negative 78.2 billion drams (up10.4% for May). The share of banks in total internal assets was 81.8 billion drams (down 7.2% for May).In the structure of internal assets, REPO transactions fell over twofold for May 2011 to 9.2 bln drams.
