Deposits with Armenian banks up 1.4% for May 2011 to 757.4 bln drams
ArmInfo. Deposits raised by Armenian commercial banks for May 2011 were up 1.4%, (up 18.4% versus May 2010 and 7.8% for Jan-May 2011) and totaled 757.4 billion drams ($2 billion) as of June 1 2011. In the structure of raised deposits, the share of deposits in the Armenian dram was 30.2% or 228.7 billion drams ($607 million), the share of deposits in foreign exchange was 69.8% or $1.4 billion (528.7 billion drams). The share of deposits in drams was up 1 percentage point May 2011.
By preliminary data of Armenian Central Bank provided to ArmInfo by the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the share of deposits of non-residents was 15.8% (4.5% decline in May) to 120 billion drams, including 8.6 billion dram deposits in drams (1.5% growth in May). The share of deposits of non-residents in foreign exchange totaled 111.4 billion drams (5% decline for May).
Deposits of residents made up 84.2% of total or 637.4 billion dram including 220.1 billion drams deposits in terms of Armenian dram. Deposits of residents in foreign exchange totaled 417.3 billion drams. The share of call liabilities in deposits of residents was 36.4% or 232 billion drams, and the share of time deposits was 63.6% or 405.4 billion drams.
Balance of population deposits as of June 1 2011totaled 394.6 billion drams growing 0.9% versus April and 30.5% per year. Interest rates on deposits in terms of Armenian dram were down from 9.37% to 9.22% in May and by 0,5 percentage points versus Jan-May 2010.
