In June 2011 food commodities in Armenia dropped in price by 2.9%
ArmInfo. In Jan-June 2011 the food commodities in Armenia rose in price by 4.9%, and in June dropped in price by 2.9% as compared with May 2011.
The National Statistical Service of Armenia told ArmInfo that the deflation in the food market in June was mostly due to reduction in prices of potatoes and vegetables by 25.6%. The share of the given group in the consumer basket is 6.26%, and the prices of this group were reflected on reduction of consumer prices by 1.61%. In June 2011 versus June 2010 potatoes and vegetables in Armenia rose in price by 14.6%. According to the statistics, the prices of 6 out of the 13 groups of food commodities under review dropped by 25.6-0.1% in June, in three groups prices rose by 0.1-4.6%, in one group prices underwent no changes.
In June 2011 versus May 2011 fruits in the republic grew in price by 4.6%, and versus June 2011 - by 29.7%. Meat and meat products rose in price by 2.3% in June alone, and as compared with June 2010 - by 9%. Animal fats and vegetable oils annually rose in price by 19.9%, and versus May - by 1.3%.
In the meanwhile, fish products, dairy, eggs and cereal products fell in price by 0.8-0.1% in June versus May. Tea, coffee, cocoa annually grew in price by 11.3%, and versus May - by 4.6%, which was mostly conditioned by 5.8% increase in the coffee prices. Sweets, alcohol drinks, tobacco and granulated sugar rose in price by 0.1-0.3% in June 2011 versus May 2011, and the prices of soft drinks underwent no changes.
To note, the consumer market of Armenia demonstrated 3.5% inflation in Jan-June 2011, and 1.4% deflation in June alone.
