0.4-2.4% deflation expected in Armenian consumer market in August 2011
ArmInfo. 0.4-2.4% deflation is expected in the Armenian consumer market in August 2011, Gourgen Martirosyan, Head of Price Statistics and International Comparisons Department of the Armenian National Statistical Service, told journalists on Monday.  
According to him, deflation at such a high level was fixed in the consumer market of the country in August 1997-2009. The year 2010 was exception, when consumer prices rose in August, Martirosyan said. To recall, 1.3% inflation was fixed in the Armenian consumer market in August 2010, and 5% inflation in Jan-Aug 2010.    
Martirosyan recalled that in Jan-July 2011 0.4% inflation was registered in Armenia, and 3% inflation in July alone. In July 2011 as compared with June, the food commodity prices (including alcohol and tobacco) dropped by 5.9%, tariffs for services dropped by 0.2%, and nonfood commodity prices underwent no changes.  
In July 2011 versus July 2010, the consumer price index in the republic made up 106.3%, the index of food commodity prices (including alcohol and tobacco) - 109.6%, the index of nonfood commodity prices - 103.1%, the index of tariffs for services - 102.3%, and in Jan-July 2011 versus Jan-July 2010 - 109.4%, 114%, 103.1% and 104.6% respectively. 
In Jan-July 2011 the index of consumer prices in the republic made up 100.4%, the index of food commodity prices (including alcohol and tobacco) - 98.9%, the index of nonfood commodity prices - 102.1%, the index of tariffs for services - 102.2%. The average growth of prices in Jan- July 2011 made up 0.1%, which is by 0.4% lower than the index of the similar period of 2010 (0.5%).   
In July 2011 versus June 2011 consumer prices in all Armenian towns under review dropped by 4.1-2.2%. In Yerevan prices fell by 3%.
