ForexClub analyst: Armenian Dram should pass a path of smooth devaluation
ArmInfo. The Armenian Dram (AMD) should pass a path of smooth devaluation, Mikayel Verdyan, an analyst of the Armenian branch of ForexClub, said at today's press conference in Yerevan. According to him, the given policy will allow dampening the negative influence of the ongoing processes in the world economy and ensuring competitiveness in international markets.
According to the analyst, over the past two months the USD has been consolidating against AMD. "This is first of all conditioned by the uncertainty in the world markets", Verdyan said and added that against the background of these changes, both the citizens and the business in Armenia give their preference to USD. The analyst thinks that AMD will still remain weak and by the end of the year the exchange rate will grow from the current 383 to 390 AMD/1 USD. In case of the Central Bank's interventions in favor of AMD, the AMD exchange rate will not exceed 380 AMD/1USD.
The supply of foreign exchange in the market traditionally grows in December, he said. However, given the deficit of the payment balance and the essential prevalence of import over export in Armenia, this volume in December 2011 will not be big: the USD revaluation against AMD will be milder. He pointed out that today's revaluation rate is acceptable for economy and causes no concerns.
