In Q4 2011 economic activity index in Armenia dropped from 99.9% to 68.7%, business climate index dropped from 107.4% to 91.6%
ArmInfo. In Q4 2011 the economic activity index in Armenia dropped from 99.9% to 68.7%, and annually declined to 94% due to worsening of expectations. Activity was fixed in the sphere of services only. The business climate index dropped from 107.4% to 91.6% in Q4 2011 and annually declined to 97.3% due to worsening of expectations in the industrial sector and trade sphere.
The press service of the Central Bank of Armenia told ArmInfo that in the structure of economic activity index quarterly reduction in tariffs of services, reduction in the number of employees in the construction sector, growth of production capacities in the industrial sector and growth in the number of employees of trade sphere were observed. On the whole, the number of organizations expressing willingness to make investments declined.
In the structure of business climate index, improvement of the climate was observed on the sphere of services and construction sector. In the sphere of services it was accompanied by economic activity growth.
To recall, the CBA has been holding the given survey among the enterprises (in the spheres of industry, construction, services, and retail trade) since 2005 and seeks to assess the current economic situation and expectations. The methodology of calculation of the indices is based on the principles worked out by the Conference Board (USA) and IFO Institute (Germany).
