Monetary base in Armenia up 32.3% for 2011
ArmInfo. Monetary base in Armenia was up 32.3% in 2011 to 671.3 bln AMD ($1.7 bln) by 1 Jan 2012. The preliminary data of the Armenian Central Bank provided by the National Statistical Service of Armenia say that monetary base grew 13.6% for Dec 2011.
In the structure of monetary base, cash circulating outside the Central Bank was up 14.5% as compared to 2010 and totaled for 398.8 bln AMD. Over December 2011 this index grew by 8.2%.
The share of compulsory dram reserves in total monetary base made up 24.3% or 163.2 billion drams growing by 40.3% for Dec 2011 (almost threefold annual growth). The share of compulsory foreign exchange reserves totaled 15.2% of total or 102.5 billion drams growing by 4.1% for Dec 2011 (16.2% annual growth).
The source reported that external reserves (exclusive of privatization funds) was down 4.3% for 2011 to 470.6 billion drams (5.1% growth for December). Internal assets totaled 200.6 billion drams by 1 Jan 2012 growing by 40% for Dec (3.6-fold annual growth). Capital requirement to the government totaled negative 66.7 billion drams growing by 19.1 for Dec 2011. The share of banks in total internal assets was 137 billion drams growing by 37.6% for Dec 2011. In the structure of internal assets, REPO transactions grew more than four times to 46.3 bln AMD.
