Deposits with Armenian banks up 38% in 2011
ArmInfo. Deposits raised by Armenian commercial banks for 2011 were up 38%, for December alone this indicator grew 5% totaling 969.78 billion drams ($2.5 billion) as of Jan 1 2012.
In the structure of raised deposits, the share of deposits in terms of the Armenian dram was 31.8% or 308.1 billion drams ($790 million), with a 41.3% YoY growth. The share of deposits in foreign exchange was 68.2% or $1.7 billion (661.6 billion drams), with a 36.6% YoY growth. The share of deposits in drams in total was up 0.8 percentage points, amid 0.2% decline of the share of foreign exchange deposits.
By preliminary data of Armenian Central Bank provided to ArmInfo by the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the share of deposits of non-residents was 21.4% or 207.4 bln drams. The share of deposits of residents totaled 78.5% or 762.3 billion drams of total, including 296.8 bln drams deposits in AMD and 465.4 bln drams in foreign exchange.
The share of call liabilities in deposits of residents was 37.4% or 284.9 billion drams, with the share of time deposits being 62.6% or 477.2 billion drams.
Balance of population deposits as of Jan 1 2012 totaled 483.6 billion drams growing 4.9% for Dec and 35.7% versus 2010.
Time deposits of the population grew 12.5% for March 2009 and 39.6% per year. Interest rates on deposits in terms of Armenian dram were up from 8.76% to 10.29% in 2011 and by 1.01 percentage points for Dec 2012.
