Armenian finance minister urges state officials to make an independent choice
ArmInfo. Armenian Finance Minister Vache Gabrielyan urges the state officials to independently choose an insurance company under the "social package" program for state workers. When commenting for ArmInfo on the attempts of pressure by "high-ranking" officials on their employees what insurance company to choose, the minister pointed out that he is unaware of specific cases but has heard of them. "We tell all the state officials that they have the right to independently choose an insurer for themselves", Gabrielyan said.
He pointed out that the official website of the Finance Ministry provides information about the products of the 6 insurance companies participating in the social package program of medical insurance for state officials. The minister also calls on the mass media to inform people of that.
To note, today the Finance Ministry of Armenia organized a presentation, during which all the 6 insurers presented the compulsory basic package of medical insurance for the state workers, as well as their additional proposals. Gabrielyan warned his employees that the basic package does not cover medical expenses and asked them to attentively study the proposals of all the insurers, as well as the essence of medical insurance in order to avoid misunderstanding in the future.
For his part, Andranik Ohanjanyan, Director of the Insurance Market Association of Armenia, pointed out that the basic medical insurance package worth 52,000 AMD implies provision of in- patient medical assistance for state workers and includes compensation for cases related to cardiovascular surgery.
To recall, the state budget 2012 envisages a social package worth a total of 18 bln AMD (47 mln USD) for about 120 thsd state employees. Under this program, the employees of the state structures can use the state's "non-cash" financial support in 4 dimensions: medical insurance, repayment of mortgage interests, payment for education and vacation in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. Medical insurance is a compulsory component of the program, and the basic package of medical insurance costs 52 thsd AMD. The basic package provides in-patient and preventive medical assistance, laboratory diagnostics, instrumental diagnostics, etc. The amount of insurance coverage within the frames of the basic package is 3.8 mln AMD.
