0.9% deflation fixed in Armenia in Feb 2012, and 2.6% inflation - in Jan-Feb 2012
ArmInfo. 0.9% deflation was fixed in the consumer market of Armenia in Feb 2012 (against 1.9% inflation in Feb 2011) due to 1.6% reduction of food prices (including alcohol and tobacco) (against 1.5% price growth in Feb 2011). The National Statistical Service of Armenia reported that the non-food prices grew by 0.2% over February (against 0.6% growth in Feb 2011), and the tariffs of services underwent no changes (against 3.4% growth in Feb 2011).
According to the statistics, in Jan-Feb 2012 inflation made up 2.6%, as compared to Jan-Feb 2011 - 3.9%, in Feb 2012 vs Feb 2011 - 3%. In particular, in Jan-Feb 2012 food prices (including alcohol and tobacco) rose by 4.4%, non-food prices dropped by 0.2%, and tariffs of services were up 0.7%. As compared to Jan-Feb 2011, these indices made up 4.5%, 3.6% and 2.8% respectively, and in Feb 2012 vs Feb 2011 - 3.3%, 3.7% and 2.1% respectively.
The food price reduction in February was due to the decline of prices of vegetables and potatoes by 10.5% and fruits - by 3.7%. The non-food price growth in February was mostly due to the increase of prices of petroleum by 3% and diesel fuel by 1%, detergents - by 1.8%, jewelry - by 2%, domestic appliances - by 2.7%. 0.1% growth of tariffs in February was fixed for utility services, transport, education, public catering, and 12.1% growth was fixed for services in culture.
In Feb 2012 vs Jan 2012 consumer prices in Armenia dropped by 1.2-0.2%. In Yerevan consumer price reduction made up 1%.
