Monetary base in Armenia down 14.7% for January 2012
ArmInfo. Monetary base in Armenia was down 14.7% for January 2012 and by 1 February amounted to 572.2 bln drams ($1.5 bln). Preliminary data of the Armenian Central Bank provided by the National Statistical Service of Armenia say that monetary base grew 23.5% in Jan 2012 versus Jan 2011.
In the structure of monetary base, cash circulating outside the Central Bank fell 9,7% for Jan 2012 and by 1 February amounted to 360.2 bln drams. The share of compulsory dram reserves in total monetary base made up 27.2% or 155.8 billion drams having dropped by 4,5% for Jan and grown by more than twofold versus Jan 2011. The share of compulsory foreign exchange reserves totaled 8,5% of total or 48.7 billion drams dropping by 52.5% for January, and by 32,5% versus Jan 2011.
The source reported that external reserves (exclusive of privatization funds) was down 13% for Jan 2012 to 409.4 billion drams (and by 4,2% versus Jan 2011). Internal assets dropped by 18,8% for Jan and by 1February amounted to 162.8 bln drams. doubling for 3Q of 2009. Capital requirement to the government totaled negative 89.1 billion drams growing 33.5% for Jan 2012
The share of banks in total internal assets was 120 billion drams dropping by 12.4% for Jan 2012. In the structure of internal assets, REPO transactions fell by 38,9% for Jan 2012 - to 28.6 bln drams.
