Swedish expert: Success of pension reforms depends on the state of a country's economy
ArmInfo. Transition from distributive pension system to accumulative one is crucial for Armenia as the latter implies reduced state financing, Swedish expert Arne Polson said during a TAIEX seminar on pension reforms on Monday.
Polson said that the success of pension forms depends on the state of a country's economy, so, after transiting to a new pension system the Armenian authorities will have to provide their people with jobs so as to help them to overcome the consequences of the global financial crisis and to form their own pensions.
Polson said that pension reforms are a long and hard process: in Sweden they were started in the early 1980s and are still underway.
The two-day seminar has been organized by Armenia's Social Security Service and the Social Reform Awareness Center with the support of Armenia's Central Bank, Finance Ministry, USAID and NASDAQ OMX Armenia and is aimed at exchanging social security experience with EU member states and raising pension reform awareness in Armenia.
