MasterCard reaches Visa card at the card market of Armenia


ArmInfo. The number of plastic cards issued by the ArCA member-banks in May 2012 grew 56,9% versus May 2011 and amounted to 29925 cards. Totally, at the end of May of the current year Armenian banks had 858.8 thsd active cards against 634.5 thsd in May 2011 (growth by 35,3%).

As press-service of Armenian Card reported, in May of the current year the banks issued 11099 MasterCard plastic cards, which grew by 4 times, 9928 - ArCa cards, growth by 8,4%, 8071 Visa cards - growth by 51,1%.

In the share of active cards the MasterCard was the leader by growth (May 2012 - May 2011) - it grew by 47,1% up to 195.4 thsd cards as of 1 June. Then comes ArCA - growth by 35,3% up to 437.8 thsd units and Visa - growth by 26,7% up to 225.6 thsd units.

Transactions were made with 582,5 of the active cards in May 2012 (68% of total active cards). As of June 1 2012 the number of the commerce/service and cash dispensing points (exclusive of ATMs) operating in the ArCa system totaled 4647, including 380 dispensing points. There were 889 ATMs, by 21,9% more versus the same period of 2011.
