Monetary base in Armenia up 18.7% to $1.4 bln by late May 2012
ArmInfo. Monetary base in Armenia was up 1.5% (by 9.13 bln AMD) for May 2012 to 580.3 bln AMD (1.4 bln AMD) by 1 June 2012. Preliminary data of the Armenian Central Bank provided by the National Statistical Service of Armenia say that the y-o-y growth of the monetary base is 18.7%.
In the structure of monetary base, cash circulating outside the Central Bank fell 0.1% for May 2012 to 378.3 bln AMD by 1 June 2012 (14.4% y-o-y growth). The share of compulsory dram reserves in total monetary base made up 28.2% or 163.6 bln AMD (4.1% decline for May 2012, 82% y-o-y growth). The share of compulsory foreign exchange reserves totaled 5.5% or 31.9 bln AMD (3.3% decline for May 2012, 42.9% y-o-y decline).
The source reported that external reserves (exclusive of privatization funds) were up 2.5% for May 2012 to 368 billion drams (1.9% y-o-y decline). Internal assets dropped by 7.9% to 212.3 bln AMD by June 1 2012 (86.7% y-o-y growth).
In the structure of internal assets, the receivables from the Government were fixed at negative 83.8 bln AMD (17.6% decline for May 2012, 7.3% y-o-y decline). The receivables from the banks dropped by 5.8% for May 2012 to 117.5 bln AMD (43.6% y- o-y growth). REPO transactions dropped by 51.8% to 20.8 bln AMD (more than twofold y-o-y growth).
