Head of Financial Monitoring Center: We have become too sensitive to Armenians of Syria
ArmInfo. Some news agencies' reports that the Armenian banks do not allow the Armenians of Syria to open accounts are groundless and have nothing to do with the reality, Head of the Financial Monitoring Center of the Central Bank of Armenia, Daniel Azatyan, said at today's briefing.
To note, a number of Armenian news agencies report that many Armenians who have migrated from Syria come across problems when opening accounts in the Armenian banks and transferring their money to Armenia.
"The Armenian banks do not disturb the Syrian Armenians to open accounts and transfer their capital to Armenia, and there are no restrictions for them", he said.
"The banks lay down certain conditions before starting to work with the customers. The customers, regardless of the whether they are citizens of Armenia or Syria, are to undergo such procedures as identification, identity check and document check. If a bank reveals any inaccuracies, it has the right not to allow the customers to open an account", he said. The Armenian banks do not display excessive caution when serving the Syrian Armenians. "The thing is that we ourselves have become too sensitive to our compatriots from Syria", Azatyan said.
He recalled that at the moment the number of immigrants from Syria is 10,000. Nearly 3,000 of them already have accounts in the Armenian banks.
