National currency deposits with Armenian banks exceed foreign exchange ones
ArmInfo. Deposits raised by Armenian commercial banks for July 2012 were up 1%, and 34.6% versus the same period of 2011, totaling 1.081 trillion drams ($2.651 billion) as of Aug 1 2012.
The share of deposits in Armenian dram in total was 30.1% or 325.8 billion drams ($799 million). This indicator grew 1.4% for July 2012 and 26.3% for the same period of 2011. The share of deposits in foreign exchange was 69.9% or $755 million (1.852 billion drams). The growth for July was 0.8% and versus the same period of 2011 - 38.6%. The share of deposits in drams in total was up 0.1 points for July amid similar decline of foreign exchange deposits.
By preliminary data of Armenian Central Bank provided to ArmInfo by the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the share of deposits of non-residents was 22% (237.7 bln drams - 5.6% growth for July and 83.7% for the same period of 2011). The share of deposits of non-residents in drams grew 6.8% for July to 15.3 bln drams (63% growth versus the same period of 2011). The share of deposits of non-residents in foreign exchange totaled 222.4 billion drams (5.5% growth in July and 85.6% growth versus the first half of 2011).
Deposits of residents made up 78% of total or 843.1 billion dram including 310.5 billion drams deposits in terms of Armenian dram (1.2% growth for July and 24.9% growth versus July 2011). Deposits of residents in foreign exchange totaled 532.6 billion drams (1% decline for July and 25.3% growth versus July 2011). The share of call liabilities in deposits of residents was 32.6% or 274.5 billion drams (2.2% decline in July and 2.2% growth versus July 2011). The share of time deposits was 67.4% or 568.6 billion drams (0.7% growth and 40.4% growth, respectively).
Balance of population deposits as of August 1 2012 totaled 562.7 billion drams ($1.380 bln), with a 0,6% decline for July (3.457 mln drams) and 35.9% growth versus July 2011 (148.7 mln drams). Interest rates on deposits in terms of Armenian dram were up from 1.06 points to 10.09% for July 2012 with a 1.14 points growth versus the same period of 2011.
