Seven banks of Armenia improve their positions in rating of "universal" banks in 2012
ArmInfo. Within 12 months seven commercial banks of ArmenIa have improved their positions of a universal bank. Analysis of the banking system of Armenia by the Agency of Rating Marketing Information (ArmInfo) on the basis of the ranking of the key balance indicators of banks showed that the first position of a universal bank (actively involved in all sectors) is still vacant. In addition, the second position has been vacant since Q4 2009. Since Q2 2012 Ameriabank can be considered the most universal bank in Armenia. Seven banks have retained their positions, while the positions of another seven banks were down.
The positions of commercial banks in the analysis of the banking system involve also the banks' positions by loro and nostro-accounts, retail lending, call liabilities, time deposits, raised and places inter-bank deposits and credits alongside with the earlier involved positions of commercial banks by total capital, assets, general provision of crediting, lending to economy sectors, investments in government securities, liabilities, raised funds, retained profit for the analyzed period of time.
Since Q3 2012 the fourth position is also vacant. VTB Bank (Armenia), HSBC Bank Armenia, and ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank shared the 5th position. Ardshininvestbank retained the 6th position. Armbusinessbank is on the 6th position. Then goes Unibank on the 8th position, ARARATBANK and Conversebank on the 9th position. The 10th position belongs to Areximbank-GPB Group, INECOBANK and Artsakhbank.
Experts say that the given rating of a 'universal' bank bears no relation to the rating of reliability and sustainability of a bank and reflects only a bank's involvement in sectors and use of banking instruments.
