In 2012 number of active bankcards in Armenia grew by 32% to over 1 million


ArmInfo. In December 2012 the Armenian banks issued a total of 43598 cards within the ArCa national processing (by 40.7% more than in Dec 2011). As of 1 Jan 2013, the total number of active bankcards in Armenia was 1008.9 thsd against 764.6 thsd as of 1 Jan 2012 (32% y-o-y growth).

Armenian Card told ArmInfo that in December 2012 the banks issued 22510 ArCa cards (65.9% y-o-y growth), 12529 MasterCards (26.1% y-o-y growth) and 8559 Visa cards (14.6% y-o-y growth).

According to ArCa, in December 2012 operations were made with 675.1 thsd cards, or 67% of the total number of active cards (26.3% y-o-y growth), particularly, with 349.4 thsd ArCa cards, 176.9 thsd Visa cards and 148.8 thsd MasterCards. As of 1 Jan 2013, there were 6068 POS-terminals in Armenian Card system (28% y-o-y growth), and 960 ATMs (14.7% y-o-y growth). All the ATMs accept local ArCa cards, while 878 ATMs serve Visa cards and 872 ATMs serve MasterCards.
