ArmInfo. Customer base of the Armenian banking system comprised 1,502,293 privates and 72,426 corporate customers as of Dec 1 2012. By preliminary data of the Armenian Central
Bank provided to ArmInfo by the National Statistical Service of Armenia, 1,574,719 customers had 1,915,571 accounts with Armenian banks, including 1,787,234 private and 128,235 corporate customers. The source reports that for 11 months of 2012 the customer base of Armenia grew 16% or by 216,914 customers and by 9.6% or 146,786 customers for November. The number of private customers grew 16.6% or by 214,116 customers for Jan-Nov 2012 (a 3.2% growth for Nov), and the number of corporate customers grew 4% or by 2.798 (1.1% growth for Nov).
The number of bank accounts of corporate and private customers fell for Jan-Nov 2012 by 13.5% amid 3.1% growth for November. The accounts of corporate customers fell 11.6% for 11 months of 2012 amid 1.5% growth for Nov, while the accounts of private customers fell 13.8% for 11 months and 3.2% for Nov.
The annual decline of the number of bank accounts amid annual growth of the customer base shows that the non-performing accounts have not been fully liquidated. Service of such accounts leads to overhead costs of labor time of the bank staff and additional irretrievable expenses connected with service of accounts and data processing.
